The first transitional housing program opened in 1992 in East Harlem. Odyssey House also offers provides 420 supportive housing apartments for individuals and families who are coping with homelessness, mental illness and drug and alcohol abuse. The first of its kind, the program offers residential and outpatient treatment and has helped more than 1,500 seniors in recovery successfully re-integrate into their communities. The Odyssey House ElderCare program was created in 1997 with a grant from the Rosenback Foundation to specifically treat older people with substance use and mental health disorders.
